Welcome to shamrock vineyard
Shamrock
Vineyard would like
to welcome you to the first successful wine-grape planting in Central
Ohio. In 1971,
Dr. Thomas N. Quilter
and his wife, Mary,
started planting in
the midst of grain fields next to a small farmhouse, just outside of
Waldo, Ohio.
The idea was to see if
grapevines would grow in a climate not perfectly suitable for the
cause. And to their surprise some did. In the
beginning, the grapes went to home winemakers and wineries until 1984, when
Shamrock became a bonded winery. To date, more than 25
varieties have been planted and the most winter-hardy have
survived. French-American hybrids, labrusca, and some
vinifera make up the acreage which are crafted and tended into Chateau
Shamrock wines.
Today, the legacy, wines, and
vines are now being cared for by the watchful hands of grandson Thomas
Van S. Creasap after Dr. Tom's passing in March 2006 and Mary's in January of 2010.
Shamrock Vineyard
will
be celebrating its
28th year of operation in 2012.
Vineyard is a familly owned and
operated winery
specializing in grape table wines. The majority of our wines
come
from fruit grown on site with a few exceptions due to climate issues. All outside fruit is Ohio grown only.
Come spend a day in the country tasting our wines while
relaxing
with friends and family.
