Pruning Workshop Offered                     Thomas Van S. Creasap, Winemaker

With spring now upon us, the vines are undergoing their annual pruning process.  The pruning of grapevines is essential to maintain proper plant size, shape and productivity.  Non-pruned grapevines can become quite wild, and fruiting will be poor due to the overproduction of vegetation.  I like to say “when pruning, it is important to focus on the Q’s”.  By reducing the quantity of fruiting canes we are increasing the quality of our potential yield.  The pruning of grapevines can prove to be quite the arduous task but with a little time and patience one can master the art and science of pruning.

Are you thinking about planting grapevines in your backyard but aren’t really sure how you should maintain them?

Bring your favorite pruning shears (or use ours) and join us in the vineyard on April 26th from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm to get a hands on experience in our very own outdoor classroom.  I feel that the best way to learn about pruning and vineyard management is not only getting a visual of what you should be doing but also to get in there and gain the experience first hand.  Follow up a hard days work with a tasting of Shamrock’s finest wines!

The event cost is $20.00 per person.
For reservations, please contact the Arts
Palace at 740-383-2101 or email your information to artspalace@marionpalace.org.
